What are you using to edit them? There has been an issue with PSP 8. It won't save them correctly. I have to use PSP 7.
Anyway, It's like this:
Select all
Save to alpha channel
save as new channel
save as .tga
you will get a warning that it will only save 1 alpha channel
Make sure that when you save it, it is UNCOMPRESSED, 32 bit, transparency IS being used. Hope this helps.
BTW, I like your Purple Rail skin, I'm using it right now.

To import a png file, you first select the image you're replacing/updating.

Right-click the image, or use the drop down list on the Import button, and select Browse for image....

Find and select the png file, you will see a po-pup asking if you want to replace the existing image with the import. Select yes.

The image is imported and converted to tga.

Be sure your transparency and translucency are both enabled.

hey no matter what i do tga files will not work when i import an msstyle skin. as far as using png files why would we want to if we wanted to import an msstyle in the first place. I noticed that for some dumb reason ss will not use tga files from msstyle files.
